The book features fascinating insights into British psychedelic music, with entries for each song that include the name of the band, the song title, writing credits, record company, catalog number, release date, background of the band, and a brief analysis of the song. Includes Syd Barrett-Octopus on both the CD and in the book. Sections of the book are: Elevator to the Brain Hotel, Down to Middle Earth, Gandalf's Garden, Mushroom Soup, and Roundhouse Ghosts. This is an excellent look at British psychedelia.

    Synopsis: This book likely inspired the Pink Floyd song, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. The story takes place on earth in the year 2091 A.D., in the City of Switzerland, which is the center of the world government. Amidst a political power struggle, a bizarre spaceship pilot, known as the Fireclown, develops a time drive which allows him to pilot his spacecraft safely into the heart of the sun, where finds he can achieve pure consciousness, a heightened state of existence devoid of any intelligence. Convinced that pure consciousness is preferable to worthless human intelligence, the Fireclown tries to rid the earth of intelligence by unleashing a time fire that will destroy human intelligence without destroying life. However, he is defeated, and the story ends with the Fireclown piloting an unprotected spaceship into the heart of the sun.
