How I Grade My Records

Record Quality: Please note that I use a very simple record grading scale. It consists of three categories: M, VG, and G. (I do not use the EX rating. My VG+ is the same as an EX rating). I am a very strict grader, and any records graded VG+ or better are beautiful copies.

  1. Excellent Records:
    1. M = Mint (pefect)
    2. M- = Mint minus (near perfect)
    3. VG+ = Very Good plus (a very nice copy with only minimal wear or minor surface noise)

  2. Very Good Records:
    1. VG = Very Good (well played over the years, with noticable audio or visual wear)
    2. VG- = Very Good minus (significant audio or visual wear)

  3. Below Average Records:
    1. G = Good (plays but with serious flaws)

Album Covers: Album covers feature some of the most interesting artwork of the latter 20th century. Unlike CD covers, which are often too small to appreciate, LP covers provide a large canvas to display beautiful art by modern day artists. As such, many albums are becoming collectable as much for their artwork as for the music that is on the vinyl. As a result, I provide a separate grade and description for the album cover in each listing.
